ABRONHILL INTRANS 2 BISHOPTON 1 ( AET)

LOCATION:HAMILTON

GAME SUMMARY:

F/T 1-1 , 2-1 (aet)

This match report is written by Kev McQuillan

Tough game, 2 evenly matched teams and a really well contested semi-final with Abronhill coming out on top after showing real grit and determination to see off 1st Division Bishopton to reach the final.

In truth, Abronhill enjoyed the best of the 90 mins in terms of procession and the number of chances created.  Both team’s defences played well and there was a fair bit of dig in midfield meaning flowing football never really materialised.

The Bishopton goal keeper made a handful of good saves over the course of the 90mins from a variety of Abronhill players while Soapy had much less to do, the back four being as solid as they have been all season (sorry Joe!), well marshalled by Michael and Raymond in midfield.

And it was Raymond who capped a MoM performance with the two goals to take Abronhill to the final.  The first came from a long throw from the right, which the keeper could only fist to the edge of the box under pressure from Kev which landed perfectly for Raymond to steer a controlled volley high into the net through a congested penalty box.

And the winner, which came in extra time after Bishopton had latched onto Soapy’s only mistake of the game with 2 mins to go, was a peach.  The ball again falling to Raymond 20 yards out after Bishopton cleared an Abronhill corner.  He hit a well controlled shot low past the keeper through another mass of bodies.

Abronhill then seen out the last 15 mins under sustained pressure but held firm for another terrific cup result.
