The phrase "a game of 2 halves" is a well worn cliche, but prefectly sums up Abronhill's disappointing 3-2 defeat on Saturday to Crosslands in the GDSML Cup.

 The first half went well as Abronhill took the lead from what can only be described as a sublime goal from Joe Maguire, who rose unmarked at the back post to bullet a superb header passed the stranded keeper from an Ants Horan freekick.

 

 Crosslands equalised soon after when Abronhill lost the ball in midfield and there guy done well to round josie and finish off. Abronhill took the lead again as Billy Ratcliffe calmly stroked the ball past the Crosslands keeper to make it 2-1 froma  great cross from Iain.

 

 At this point it really looked like it was to be Abronhill's day, and it could have easily have been more with Kev and Billy missing some good chances. At half time, no one could honestly have predicted that 45 mins later we would be walking towards the changing rooms gutted after a 3-2 defeat. Andy McMahon replaced Jack Spiers at half time and the first 10 mins went well as Abronhill kept it tight.

 

However, the wind played a massive part with Crosslands resorting to route-one long balls for most of the sexond half. Crosslands equiliser came from a header from which left Josie with no chance.  Extra time looked possible and Abronhill put on more fresh legs with Ricky Young and Tony McCluskey replacing Iain Martin and Kev McQuillan.

 

 The 3rd Crosslands goal was lucky to say the least, but you can't deny them their victory as they raised their game in the 2nd half with Abronhill really struggling against the wind.  Not much more to say, except that everyone knows how gutted we were at the end of the game. Lets turn that into a victory in Saturday's league rematch!!
