 GAME SUMMARY:

H/F time 2-0 F/T 5-0

Match report, by Ross kennedy.

Abronhill stretched their unbeaten run to 4 games with a 5-0 win over Strathclyde Uni.  In a rare switch of venues, Abronhill took the gamble of playing their home game away to try to take advantage of the lush conditions at the Uni's playing fields.  However, conditions were still difficult with strong winds blowing across the pitches.

Confidence was high from Abronhill as captain Billy Ratcliffe rallied the troops with a war-cry blatantly stolen from the Reverend Black Grape.  The shout of  "Can I get a witness" was still echoing from the pre-match huddle as Abronhill started the game.

Strathclude Uni got off to a good start and caused Abronhill a few problems with their general fitness and their number 7 pulling the strings in midfield, only Josie in goals denying  the students the lead, and the post.  However, once Abronhill got into the flow of the game, the opening goal soon came.  A good move down the left from Raymond saw Bill tuck his finish low into the bottom corner.

The students never gave up and kept plugging away, but the superior numbers paid off and Abronhill got their second ten minutes later.  Good work by Joe and Billy again down the right paid off when Ross played a superb slide rule pass through to Tony McCluskey, who carried the ball forward, steadied himself and slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper.  I really must go back to the pass again though, the vision of Ross Kennedy to not only spot the pass but play it through with such perfection and accuracy must be noted.  It really was the pass of the season and finished off any hopes Strathclyde Uni had of getting back in the game.....pity it was the only thing he done in the whole game apart from a clearance in the second half!

Half-time 2-0 and the pressure was off.  It would have taken a monumental effort for Strathclyde to drag themselves back into the game with 10 men, but again the number 7 caused us problems until Mark McCluskey replaced Ross after about 65 minutes.  More about Mark later though.  The third goal wasn't long in coming afterwards as Kev scored his first of the game.  The big man done some superb work to beat the keeper from such a tight angle to put Abronhill 3-0 up.  The second half saw Michael coming on to replace the injured Robert at left back and put in a good shift at left back.  Tony got his 2nd of the match with a nice finish leaving the keeper helpless after some good work from Kev. Kev also got his 2nd of the match after a goog one-two with Joe and Billy released Kev to rounded the keeper and slotted home nicely.

The real headlines of the second half however must go to Mark McCluskey (aka Daniel San, Mark Knopfler, Rab C Nesbitt, Ninja Turtle etc).  Mark was subjected to a cruel elbow by their Chris Burke lookalike number 7, leaving Mark with a nasty gash in his head.  Even with a qualified nurse at the side of the park, the 'medical team' made a botched job of tying the bandage round his napper - the result of which made Mark look like he had

just visited Mr Miyagi's dojo.  The sight of him running around the park with the bandage flowing freely at the back will live with the 3 spectators forever.  Lets not mention Grahams sitters, his excuse after the match- "the ball bobbled", of course it did Graham.

All in all, a good performance despite the wind and a good 3 points against a decent team.  Special mention must go to Josey for another clean sheet and the defence for keeping things tight at the back.
