 GAME SUMMARY:

H/F time 2-2 F/T  5-3

Match report, by Ross kennedy.

Abronhill continued the winning run with an excellent 5-3 win over promotion rivals Glenavon Thistle.  If anyone had left after the first 15

minutes they would never have believed the scoreline though as Abronhill struggled against the wind in the first half.

With Ants, Robert and Ricky missing from the last match, a shuffle of the pack was necessary with Michael slotting in at left back,

Billy switching from right midfield to  left and Iain replacing Billy on the right.

It was the visitors who took the initiative  early on when along punt through caught the Abronhill

defence unaware and quick pass across the box left an easy tap in for there No:11, 1-0.

Glenavon continued to cause the home side problems and it took Abronhill 'til around the 20 minute mark to get back into things with

Tony pulling one back. A good pass from iain to kev on the wing,  who inturn released Tony early to

run in on goal, strong play from Tony keeping the defender at bay, and it was finished off nicely with a neat finish into the bottom corner

.Abronhill Could have went 2-1 up when good work from Raymond, gave Iain the chance to bury it,

but with too much time to pick his spot he decided the goals on the opposite park was a better option and ball flew over.

Glenavon then took the lead again after a long punt from there keeper caught the defence off-guard once again and the striker coolly lofted the ball over Josie, who did mange to get a good kick at him but just not hard enough.

Soon after it was 2-2, when a long punt AGAIN from Glenavon was clearded first time by Danny, his pass found Raymond who released Kev, and with the defender left in his wake, Kev finished off neatly to grab his 14th of the season..

Fair play to the referee - who would be one? - but some of his offside decisions left a helluva lot to be desired and it just proves that amateur football is a bit of a lottery sometimes without any linesmen.

Into the 2nd Half and Kev nearly scored again with only 1 minute played, a fine shot just drifting by the top corner.

But again it was Glenavon who took the lead for the third time in the match, a superb effort from the corner of the 18 yard box left Josie with no chance.

What followed was exceptional from Abronhill, to fight back once again then go on and win the match was a real team effort.

Tony playing like a man possessed took a quick throw in to release Kev while the Glenavon Thistle players were sleeping, and Kev just powered his way to goal and unleashed an unstoppable shot and his 15th of the season, superb, 3-3.

Again it was Tony who provided the ammunition for the fourth goal, from the left wing Tony cut in and drilled a superb cross/shot across the 6 yard box, the ball actually may have been going in, but to make up for his shocking effort in the 1st half, Iain nipped in to superbly finish from 2 inches, clinical.

Tony disputes this and claims the goal, but surely a team-mate wouldn’t lie about getting the final touch, would he ?

The next 15-20 mins were tight for both sides, with Abronhill not wanting to loose the lead and Glenavon wanting to walk away with at least a point. Some changes for both sides saw Abronhill replace Iain with Mark and Kev subbed for Graham.

Kev once again denied his hat-trick.

With the subs full of energy and wanting to make an impression on the ever present Mcgowen on the sidelines,

Mark broke free from midfield with the grace of a giraffe on ice.

Powering towards goal somehow the ball got stuck under his feet and quite rightly the ref felt sorry for him and a freekick was awarded. From 25 yards, up stepped Raymond to crash a shot off the bar only for Billy to be toe poke it home for his 20th of the season, 5-3 and game over.

A good physical match with Abronhill getting the boot up the arse they needed after going 1-0 down. We need to be more physical in EVERY match and fight for every loose ball and make sure all 50-50s are won. A superb team effort and the run continues
