Match report by Ross Kennedy
Abronhill got back to winning ways with a 5-2 win against a poor butdetermined Hamilton Wanderers side. The home side took an early lead (probably the only lead that's ever likely to be seen in Mount Ellen judging by the mountains of dogshit that had to be scraped off the pitch before the game) against the visitors through Tony McCluskey and doubled their lead soon after through a freshly shaved Paul Hartley, sorry, Billy Ratcliffe, soon after.
At this point, one of the locals dashed from theirhouse as they thought Lee Carsley was making a shock appearance in theGDSML, but they then realised it was none other than fan favourite RossKennedy who played the inch perfect passes both times to set-up Abronhill's potent strikeforce.
At times it was like watching Sutton and Larsson intheir prime as young McCluskey and Ratcliffe stormed forward time after time to put pressure on the Wanderers defence. This soon paid off whenBilly Ratcliffe added a 3rd goal, taking advantage whilst the goalie changed the battery on his pacemaker behind the goal.
Abronhill were 3 up at half time and strolling, but the football was scrappy at times and they knew they could play a lot better.
The 2nd half saw Abronhill take the field determined to extend their lead, but Hamilton had other ideas when they pulled a goal back due to some top class fanny1ng around at the back. Aside from this though, the central defensive pairing of Spiers and Flynn had things sealed up pretty well and full-backs Joe 'Cafu' Maguire and Roberto Carlos-Mason played their usual game of getting forward when possible and taking no prisoners when the ball came their way.
In fact, left-back Mason's attacking display was so good that Billy Ratcliffe got carried away at one point and shouted 'Roberto' as he drove forward with the ball (did anyone else hear that! haha).
Iain Martin also added one near the end when he diverted an Ants Horan 'cross..cough cough!' into the net. Iain played much better this week after actually sleeping the night before the game and Ants delivered a good few decent balls into the area.
Abronhill sealed the win with a 'goal' from Abronhill's own Shane Ward lookalike, Raymond McCluskey who proved he had the x-factor by sclaffing the ball under the goalie into the net. The fact he had the audacity to celebrate after it says it all!! Second half subs saw Michael McQuillan, Stevie Brogan and Ricky Young all making decentcontributions at the end.
Oh, and forgot to mention that they scored in the middle of all this, when an absolutely shocking throw out from JosieLethley left Kennedy helpless and the ball was stolen from his feet. Overall though, a decent win despite the poor football played at times.
Goals: Billy (2), Tony, Iain, Raymond.
